If you are holding your wedding in August, your out of town guests will enjoy the summer activities. Including a chance to visit the Toronto 2015 Parapan games.

Cody Caldwell is one of the Canadian athletes competing in Wheelchair Rugby. Cody fell of a ciff in 2008, and he is paralyzed from the chest down. The following year he began playing rugby to stay active and help his motivation. He became a member of the Fighting Squirrels Wheelchair Rugby, that got funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in March 2015.

About The Toronto 2015 Parapan Games.

The Games are Cody’s first major multi-sport competition. And it was the first time friends and family were able to see the Peterborough athlete in this level of competition.

Playing in the Parapan Am Games is a dream come true for me and my team. I am so grateful that the Ontario Trillium Foundation gave support to the Fighting Squirrels Wheelchair Rugby. My team and I were able to practice every week with proper equipment, improving our skills and preparing ourselves for different tournaments. And here I am, playing at the Games representing Canada – it doesn’t get any better than this. – Cody Caldwell.

Wheelchair rugby is hard-hitting action in the Hershey Centre, Mississauga.
Wheelchair rugby players play the game with force and the crashing of wheelchairs at full speed. As it is just part of the game. Speed, skill, and teamwork are as important as force and tenacity. The Canada team is one of the tops in the world. But, they will need to knock off a tough U.S. team that has designs on a gold medal of their own. The two countries square off on Wednesday, August 12th. Wheelchair rugby runs through Friday, August 14.

More records were made at the spectacular new pool on Super Sunday.
The pool area is one of the best places to be during the games. Sunday night was a great night for Canadians with gold-medal chances in seven of 15 events. Brazil is the top country in swimming. Competition is the U.S., Colombian, Mexican and Argentinean stars and other top international athletes. Many records were made on the first day. The new Aquatics Centre and Field House was a joy for the spectators and athletes.

Monday is the opening day for track and field at the new stadium.
Star track and field athletes from the Americas have already been at the new athletics stadium. And now it is time to see blazing speed, incredible strength and amazing endurance of the athletes. The 100-metre final on August 11, features three of the top four blade runners in the world. American star Jarryd Wallace is predicting a new world record in a lightning fast race under 10.75 seconds. Athletics are running through to Friday.

Spots for the Paralympic Games in Rio will go to the top teams. So there is a lot on the line for the athletes. The Canadian women’s wheelchair basketball team are world champions. They are hoping to stay on top. The Canadian men are defending Paralympic champions but are facing stiff competition. Fans will see outstanding action as well as amazing shooting and passing skills. As some of the best players in the world play for teams coming from the Americas. The games are at the intimate Ryerson Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto. And the Wheelchair basketball runs through August 15.

Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games Opening Ceremony August 7, 2015.

On August 7th, the TORONTO 2015 Parapan Am Opening Ceremony welcome more than 1,600 athletes from 28 countries. It is the largest Parapan Am Games for competitions in 15 sports.

Hosted at the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium at York University in Toronto, the Opening Ceremony kicked off with a rendition of O Canada, performed by Gabrielle Goulet. While the Canadian flag was raised by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Ontario Provincial Police.

The Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, the Huron-Wendat First Nation, the Six Nations of the Grand River and the Métis Nation of Ontario then performed. They celebrate the tradition and spirit of the four ancestral nations of the Host Region and the beginnings of Canada.

Following the raising of the flags, Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer of the Toronto Committee spoke. He paid tribute to the true heroes of the Games. The athletes and the impact their journey of determination leave for all who witness them.

The courage of veterans who strive to overcome incredible odds through sport, competition and fair play. This came through as spectators saw their training, warrior spirit and inner strength.

The two flames, which had travel across Ontario, were united and passed to Rick Mercer (CBC-TV Rick Mercer Report). Then to Rick Hansen, Canada’s Man in Motion. Hansen then passed it to Paralympian Chantal Petitclerc. Who then carried the flame to its final destination. The Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games community cauldron.

Toronto singer Francesco Yates sang songs from his debut album. And for the finale, fireworks filled the sky above the stadium.
