Royals first year duties included visiting Malaysia September 14 2012. Prince William and Kate attended an official dinner hosted by Malaysian King Abdul Halim of Kedah.

The royals William and Kate arrived in Singapore their first stop on their official eight-day tour. Kate wore a pink kimono style dress by designer Jenny Packham when they arrived.

The Southeast Asia tour was to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee. The couple were able to have a stay on a remote hideaway on the Solomon Islands. And enjoy a tour of Tuvalu.

One of their stops was at the Botanic Gardens to view their famed orchids. One orchid is named for the royal couple. It is The Vanda William Catherine. A free flowering orchid hybrid of white petals. With purple-red spots and a purple lip.

The couple viewed the 3-ft. tall white Dendrobium Memoria Princess Diana orchid.

While in Malaysia the Royals attended official events:
• A cultural event at the KLCC Park, a 50-acre tropical landscape in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
• A lunch hosted by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak, at his official residence Seri Perdana.
• An official dinner hosted by Malaysian King Abdul Halim of Kedah at Istana Negara the national palace.
• A business lunch organized by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. Where William delivered a speech.
• A Diamond Jubilee Tea Party hosted by the British High Commissioner at his residence.
• A visit to Hospis Malaysia. The Duchess is a patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. She gave her first speech aboard to patients and staff.
• In Sabah the royals went into the rainforests of Danum Valley. They learned about the conservation efforts of the Royal Society of which the Duke is a Fellow.

Malaysia was once a part of the British Empire. It received independence on August 31, 1957.

More than 600,000 people viewed Kate’s wedding dress. Created by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen it was the centerpiece of the annual summer opening of Buckingham Palace public tours.

The wedding gown stood under lights on a platform in the Ballroom. The display included the Cartier Halo tiara loaned by the Queen to Kate on her wedding day.

The wedding items showcased the handcrafted bridal size 8 shoes by Alexander McQueen. And a replica of Kate’s bridal bouquet in silk flowers by the wedding florist Shane Connolly. And a film about the creation of the dress featuring Sarah Burton.

The tiered wedding cake was in the Palace state dining room. The first cut from Prince William’s sword was still visible on its base.

The top three tiers were replaced with replicas by baker Fiona Cairns. The couple have held on to the top two tiers. Keeping with the tradition of saving some to serve at their first child’s christening. The third section was eaten on the big day.

Tickets for the Palace tour were USD$28.50. It included 19 state rooms, a Royal Fabregé exhibit and a walk in the south side of the garden. Visit The Royal Collection.

During the Royals first year the newlyweds visited North America.

The royals William and Kate were among the 750 guests invited to St. George’s Chapel for Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service.

Kate wore a blue brocade coat dress with cream-colored LK Bennett heels. William wore a dark blue suit. Following the ceremony the newlyweds attended a reception followed by lunch at Windsor Castle. The castle is one of the Queen’s residences for the British stately family.

In London the family was out to help Queen Elizabeth celebrate her 85th official birthday. Her real birthday is April 21 but the weather is not as nice. The Queen and Prince Philip rode in the Trooping the Color parade. The ceremony is made up of more than 600 guardsmen and cavalry.

Prince William and his father Prince Charles had official duties in the parade. They both rode with fellow guardsmen and cavalry on horseback. All saluted the Queen as they rode by in their red Irish Guard uniforms.

The royal newlyweds joined members of the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony where they all watched a flyover of military aircraft. And yes that is the same uniform William wore on his wedding day.

June 9, 2011 London.

During the royals first year the Duke & Duchess attended the $28-M Ark Gala.

When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Ark Gala all eyes were on Kate. She was wearing a Jenny Packham pearlescent rose sequin gown embellished with Swarovski crystal. Accessorized with LK Bennett shoes and clutch.

During the royals first year William and Kate made their first public engagement as a married couple at the Gala. The 10th annual Absolute Return for Kids Gala Dinner was held at London’s Perks Field at Kensington Palace. Kate sat next to Prince Pavlos of Greece. William sat between Marie Chantal of Greece and Debbie von Bismarck.

Over one thousand guests sipped Baron de Rothschild champagne at dinner. Tickets were up to USD$16,000 each. The post dinner auction included a box of medicine signed by the royal couple. It sold for nearly USD$200,000.

William addressed the guests and announced a new joint initiative. Between ARK and The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry and The Duchess of Cambridge.

After receiving a standing ovation the royal couple made an early exit. By the end of the evening US$28-million had been raised on behalf of the ARK charity.

During their first year of marriage William and Kate had a two-bedroom refurbished apartment inside Kensington Palace. This provided them with a London base.

Their main home during this time was in Anglesey near William’s air-base in north Wales. Their administrative Household Office was based at St. James Palace.

During the Royals first year William and Kate attended Derby in Style.

Following their honeymoon the newlyweds, picture right, with friend Jake Warren made their first public appearance at the Epsom Derby in London. Queen Elizabeth dressed in pink was there to see her horse Carlton House win. The favorite came in third.

Kate wore a cream Reiss Peacock dress with a Joseph Nessie tweed jacket. She accessorized with a taupe Whiteleys fascinator. A pair of LK Bennett Sledge2 shoes and clutch. Her long hair was styled in a modern chignon.

William and his brother Harry both wore traditional tailcoats and top hats. As did the men in the royal group.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first royal duty during the Royals first year of marriage.
The royals William and Kate met with U.S. President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama for 20-minutes in the 1844 Room in Buckingham Palace. The 20-minute talk included the newlyweds upcoming visit to California in July.

It was Kate’s first royal duty. She wore a pale coffee colored cap sleeved knee length Shola dress by Reiss USD$275. Accessories were a black Maud clutch bag by Anya Hindmarch Bespoke and shoes from LK Bennett.

Within two minutes of Kate’s picture chatting to the First Lady across news websites 20 dresses were sold online. Not long after traffic to the Reiss online site had increased more than 300 percent causing it to crash. It came back a few hours later only to crash again.

A Reiss spokesperson said all the 1000 dresses in its inventory were sold within hours. They issued a statement saying the dress was going to be restocked.

The Shola design dresses were then available on eBay in the UK. Some sellers were asking more than USD$700. The supermarket chain Tesco manufactured a copy of the dress that sold for about USD$50.

Michelle Obama wore a Barbara Tfank designed silk dress USD$2200. The Obamas spent two nights at Buckingham Palace before continuing their tour of Europe.

The Royal Hat that raised US$130,000!
When Princess Beatrice the 22-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth attended the royal wedding of William and Kate it seemed all cameras went on her silk swirling bow hat by Philip Treacy. The hat matched her dress by Valentino Haute Couture.

Princess Beatrice took lots of ribbing about her hat that went viral online. She decided to list the hat as a unique sculptural celebratory headpiece on eBay. She got the last laugh by its sale to an anonymous bidder for USD$130000. She raised the money for Unicef and Children in Crisis a charity established by her mother Sarah the Duchess of York.

Real life for the Duchess of Cambridge is doing her own thing. And that includes grocery shopping.

The lady walking by Kate on the left of the image does not seem to recognize her. Or notice Kate handing her car keys to one of the security officers with her.

Dressed casual in skinny jeans and a green sweater with ballet flats. Kate is wearing her wedding band and engagement ring.

Her shopping list included the basics and a few special items. One onlooker speculated that she might be making a romantic meal for her new husband.

She loaded all the shopping items into her car. Then skipped as she ran the cart back to the park reported the Daily Mail. She looked very happy and was smiling at people. Most people did not even spot who she was. Despite her being the most famous person in the world at that moment.

The royals William and Kate never planned on employing chefs. Butlers, valets or any other type of help beyond their security detail. After their weekend getaway Prince William went back to work. He participated in two RAF emergency rescues before they left for their honeymoon.

In the Royals first year of marriage, Kate became a working royal.

Kate became a working royal when she and Prince William dedicated a lifeboat in their first official appearance since their engagement.

Hundreds of people cheered as the smiling Kate poured a bottle of champagne over the vessel. In was a dedication service at the lifeboat station Trearddur Bay on Anglesey in Northwest Wales.

The lifeboat station is near where William was working as a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot.

Kate wore a three-quarter length beige coat. A black scarf with suede boots and a black feather hat. She laughed as she emptied out the bubbly onto the boat. She was unable to smash the bottle as tradition because the lifeboat is inflatable.

William and Kate stood close beside each other on a podium as they sang the British and Welsh national anthems God Save the Queen and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau Land of My Fathers.
