EDINBURGH, Scotland. Queen Elizabeth and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were among the royal guests who attended the Queen’s granddaughter, Zara Phillips and British rugby player, Mike Tindall private wedding ceremony at Canongate Kirk on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

Father of the bride, Captain Mark Phillips walked Zara down the aisle.

The bride arrived at the 17th century church at 3:05 pm in a black Bentley accompanied by her father Captain Mark Phillips pictured left.

As she stepped from the car for her royal wedding Zara Phillips waved smiling to cheers and warm applause from the crowd of 6,000. The bride showed her ivory silk faille and silk duchesse satin gown by Stewart Parvin. He is a couturier to both the Queen and the Princess Royal.

The dress was designed to create a bell-shaped silhouette. And featured a chevron-pleated bodice. A dropped waist which concealed a corset that flowed into a full skirt with hidden pockets. She wore a cathedral-length bouffant style veil with a short blusher. The fabric-covered buttons ran down the back of the gown from the neckline to the hem.

Phillips wore a Greek Key diamond tiara loaned to her by her mother the Princess Royal. The tiara was once owned by Princess Alice of Battenburg, the mother of Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Her shoes were by Jimmy Choo. Her bouquet was by Paul Thomas.

Her natural make-up look was from Bobbi Brown. Her hair was worn in a swept-up chignon styled by Evangelos Tsaipkinis of the Mayfair salon Michael John.

The bride, 30, was accompanied by her maid of honor, horse trainer Dolly Maude. Maude’s six-year-old son Ted is Miss Phillips’ godson and acted as page boy. The bridesmaids were Stephanie Phillips, Miss Phillips’s half-sister, the daughter of Captain Mark Phillips and his second wife Sandy Pflueger. Nell Maude, Jaz Jocelyn and Hope Balshaw. All wore dresses by Sue Palmer a local dressmaker.

The groom, 32, arrived at the Kirk with Peter Phillips, Miss Phillips older brother who acted as an usher. His best man was Iain Balshaw his former Gloucester and England team-mate. His groomsman was James Simpson-Daniel an England team-mate.

The groom, best-man and ushers wore black morning suits with spongebag trousers by London tailors Cad & the Dandy. They were made with black barathea cloth sourced from Huddersfield in a nod to the Tindalls’ Yorkshire roots. They also sported white carnation buttonholes and shiny Oxford shoes.

The bride and groom were joined by over 400 guests at the Kirk. Which was decorated with white stargazer lilies, roses and carnations. Along with beech and box trees. The guests were piped into the Kirk by Derek Potter the Queen’s pipe major.

The Queen wore a Stewart Parvin apricot wool coat and matching silk patterned dress. She accessorized with a matching straw hat by the royal milliner Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

Mother of the bride, the Princess Royal attended with her husband Commander Timothy Laurence. She wore a rose pink skirt and embroidered cream jacket and a typically understated fascinator.

The Duchess of Cambridge, pictured left, wore a fitted butterscotch skirt and matching jacket by Alexander McQueen with a large disc-shaped fascinator. It was an outfit she wore to a wedding she attended in 2006.

The Duchess of Cornwall chose a peppermint pleated dress worn under a fitted jacket with an elaborate floral headdress.

The wedding service was conducted by the Rev Neil Gardner the Queen’s personal chaplain in Scotland. Canongate is the parish church for Holyroodhouse. The Gordounstoun choir performed during the service singing Amazing Grace and two psalms. Miss Phillips vowed to honor her groom rather than obey when she exchanged her marriage vows.

The Royal wedding guests included the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Charles and Prince Harry. The Duke of York, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The Earl and Countess of Wessex. And Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband Daniel.

The groom’s guests included his father, Phil, a retired Barclays Bank worker and his mother Linda who is a social worker and his elder brother Ian. Guests present were Tindall’s uncle Stuart and his wife Paula. Who together with their daughters Sarah and Kathryn perform as the folk band The Tindalls.

Wedding guests included sports stars Jackie Stewart the former racing driver and Miss Phillips’ godfather. He who wore a bold blue, green and red kilt with a blue navy jacket and England rugby stars. The female guests were dressed in a wide range of styles and bright colors included actress Katherine Kelly of Coronation St.

Seventy-six-year-old Margaret Kittle camped out overnight after traveling 4000 miles from her home in Ontario to catch a glimpse of the wedding party. She told a reporter that she had been hooked on the Royal family since my parents took me to see George VI and the Queen Mother when I was four. She had seen every wedding since Princess Anne and Mark Phillips.

After the service
The bride and groom emerged from the Kirk smiling and waving before exchanging a kiss under the archway to cheers from the crowds. A Bentley drove them back to the Palace of Holyroodhouse 360 yards away.

The Royal wedding guests were driven back to the Palace in a fleet of Bentleys and Jaguars. They were greeted by a group of pipers at the gates of Holyrood, while the rest of the wedding party followed in coaches for an afternoon reception followed by dinner and dancing.

The Queen’s wedding gift for the couple was the cost of the reception. She stayed only for drinks before leaving the guests to carry on partying just as she had Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.

Before her royal wedding Zara Phillips spent her final night as a single woman partying on the Royal Yacht Britannia with guests. She stayed at the Palace of Holyroodhouse the Queen’s official Scottish residence.

The couple had chosen to marry in Edinburgh because of Phillips’ strong connections to Scotland. She attended Gordounstoun School in Morayshire. And spent many holidays at Balmoral the Queen’s Scottish estate.

The Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh’s Old Town is where the Queen worships when in residence at Holyrood. Founded in 1688 and completed in 1691 Canongate Kirk is the parish church for the Scottish Parliament and Edinburgh Castle.

Princess Anne married her second husband Commander Timothy Laurence in a private ceremony at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral in 1992. Zara’s nuptials are the first Royal wedding there since her mother’s.

Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips is the second child and only daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband Captain Mark Phillips. She is thirteenth in the line of succession to the throne. At the request of their mother the children of the Princess Royal do not hold any royal or noble title. They do not take any money from the public purse. Nor are they automatically entitled to royal status by right of birth as the grandchildren of a monarch in the female line.

No traditional honeymoon for newlyweds. The bride and groom decided to forego the traditional post-wedding honeymoon and returned to their respective day jobs. Mike Tindall was in training for his next international match an England vs Wales friendly on August 6 at Twickenham. Miss Phillips was preparing for the Blenheim Palace and Gatcombe International horse trials in September. She has decided to keep her maiden name because of her success as a world champion equestrian.

In London on March 9, 2011, a simple statement was issued by the press secretary to Queen Elizabeth “Miss Zara Phillips and Mr. Mike Tindall will be married at the Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh, on Saturday, 30th July, and on behalf of Phillips’s parents, Zara’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh they are delighted with the news.”

Buckingham Palace turned down Zara Phillips request for her and her then fiancé Mike Tyndall to sell their wedding photos to Hello! Magazine.

Tindall is a rugby player who plays Outside centre for Gloucester Rugby. He is the current captain of the England team.

Phillips and Tindall informed their families of the news shortly after she accepted his proposal at their home. The ring is described as a single solitaire diamond with pavé set diamonds on a split shank, set on a platinum band was designed by Tindall.

Phillips is former Eventing World Champion (World Equestrian Games) and often seen in casual sports gear. But she can glam-up when the occasion calls for it.

At her cousin William’s wedding to Kate Middleton, pictured right, Zara wore a silvery grey coat dress by Dublin-born designer Paul Costelloe. With a black hat by Philip Treacy.

Tindall wore a traditional morning suit and matched his tie to Zara’s outfit.
