The invitation decorations are gold lettering with edges that were sent by Queen Elizabeth.

The wedding invitations for William and Kate’s royal wedding were sent out by Queen Elizabeth on February 16th & 17th, 2011.   On the 1900 guest list was royalty and VIPs from around the world.  And family friends including William and Kate’s university friends. 

William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, sent out the invitations in gold writing.  And her symbol is on the top of the 10×6 inch cards that have gold edges.

The simple wording reads that the Lord Chamberlain has been commanded by the Queen to invite the holder to the marriage at Westminster Abbey on Friday, 29th April 2011 at 11 a.m.

As for the dress code.  Gentlemen guests were asked to wear military uniform, a tailcoat or a business suit.

Six-hundred of the 1900 guests got an invite by Queen Elizabeth to the reception that she was hosting following the ceremony in the Abbey.

Later around 300 of those 600 guests got an invitation to a dinner Williams’ father Prince Charles was hosting at the Buckingham Palace.

Guests were David Beckham and Victoria Beckham. Elton John and David Furnish and Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen. And one of William’s godfathers King Constantine the former ruler of Greece, his wife Queen Anne-Marie and their son Crown Prince Pavlos.

Prince William and Kate use two official photos to celebrate their engagement.

Fashion photographer Mario Testino took the engagement photos of Prince William and Kate.  Testino was a good friend of the late Princess Diana, and her favorite photographer.

The first photo is a casual picture that was taken in the Cornwall Room in St James Palace. Kate is wearing jeans and a white Whistles blouse. And William is wearing jeans, a white Turnbull & Asser shirt and a brown Brunello Cucinelli jumper.

The second photo, shown right, is a more formal shot that was taken in the council chamber. It is where some of William’s ancestors’ paintings are hung on the walls.

Kate’s engagement ring is clearly visible on her left hand in the photo. William is wearing a suit, shirt and tie from royal outfitters Turnbull & Asser. And Kate is wearing a white Reiss dress with a single pearl earring visible.

Prince William told Queen Elizabeth about his Proposal.

Prince William, then 28, and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton, also 28, became engaged in October, 2010 during a private holiday in Kenya.
Upon their return, the prince told Queen Elizabeth and other close members of his family.  And he sought the permission of Kate’s father.

The official announcement was on November 16, 2010. It was from Prince Charles’ Clarence House office as follows. The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton on

Prince William gave Kate the engagement ring his father, Prince Charles, gave to his late mother Diana Princess of Wales. During greeting the media on November 16th, Kate is shown in the photo on the right wearing the 18 carats oval blue sapphire engagement ring.  And the 14 small cluster diamonds that surround the sapphire.

Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mothers’ weddings were both at Westminster Abbey.  As well as the site for Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.

Downing Street made the announcement that the Cabinet had agreed that a public holiday will be held on the day of Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton.

The costs of the wedding itself was met by the Royal Household.  And the Government took care of the wider security and its transportation costs.

Following their wedding the couple lived in North Wales.  And Prince William continued to serve with the Royal Air Force.

Prince William and Kate met while they were students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
