On July 1st the Civil Service was held in the Palace Throne Room.
On July 2nd a Religious Ceremony was held in the Palace courtyard. And this is where Prince Albert breaks tradition.

MONACO July 2, 2011. The Royal Wedding of Prince Albert, 53, and Princess Charlene, 33, was a Roman Catholic ceremony in the courtyard of his palace. And the ceremony was at the foot of a marble double staircase with white flowers decor. The bride and groom stood in front of their wedding guests. As over 3500 people sat outside to watch the festivities on giant TV screens.

Archbishop Bernard Barsi of Monaco asked the couple if they will accept each other for better, for worse. And they both said a firm Yes!

The couple then exchanged their rings. The rings are 18-karat white gold and platinum, and creations of the House of Cartier.

The bride wore a custom boat-neck gown by Giorgio Armani Privé. The gown has 140 yards of different silks. And 40,000 Swarovski crystals and 20,000 mother of pearl beads. Her train is six yards long of duchess satin and thousands of tiny crystals.

Princess Charlene’s hair stye is a swirling French twist. And she is wearing light makeup.

The royal wedding guests were Albert’s sisters Princesses Caroline and Stephanie who both wore pink outfits. Albert the King of Belgium. Princess Madeleine of Sweden. Felipe and Letizia of Spain. Prince Edward of England. And The Earl and Countess of Wessex. Celebrity guests were the former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Actor Roger Moore. France’s richest man Bernard Arnault. Former French first lady Bernadette Chirac. Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. Opera singer Renee Fleming and more.

The newlyweds made a tour of the Principality after their religious ceremony. And their tour went from the Place du Palais to the front of the church of Saint Devota, the Patron Saint of Monaco. It is also where the Princess left her bridal bouquet.

July 2nd at The Official Royal Wedding Dinner.
Over 450 wedding guests were at the dinner on the terraces of the Garnier Opera House and the Casino Terraces.

The French-born chef Alain Ducasse did the preparation for the official dinner menu. The three-course dinner was made in the kitchens of the Louis XV at the Hotel de Paris. And the support of staff was from establishments belonging to the Société des Bains de Mer of Monte Carlo.

Prince Albert and Charlene chose the menu products from the region. Some of the products were from the Prince’s estate in Rocagel. And some of the wines and champagnes were from South Africa.

Perrier-Jouet Champagne was served at the receptions over the two day celebrations. And a special cuvée in honor of this historic event.

The marriage of Prince Albert is the first of a ruling prince in Monaco. His father Prince Rainier III marriage to Hollywood star Grace Kelly was in 1956.

The royal wedding puts a spotlight on the tiny principality built around images of luxury. And the ancient House of the Grimaldi family members who has ruled it since 1297.

Thousands of fans saw the civil ceremony taking place in the Palace Throne Room on a giant screen. The civill ceremony is a requirement by law before religious services.

The bride wore a Chanel silk blue jacket with ankle-length pants. And the groom wore a dark suit with a blue silk tie to match her outfit.

Presiding at this ceremony were 100 family members, relatives and friends. The Principality’s royal registrar Phillipe Narmino asked if they take each other in marriage both quietly said Oui. The marriage then became official. And Wittstock became a princess when Narmino the president of Monaco’s Council of State said, I declare you united by the bonds of marriage.

The royal couple then signed the marriage register with a special Montblanc pen. The pen was made just for them. It is gold with precious stones and the pen has their monogram on it.

All of Monaco’s 7,618 citizens and their partners were sent invitations to the post-ceremony cocktails on the square. And a concert by French composer Jean Michel Jarre and a laser light show.

The concert by Jean Michel Jarre at the Hercules Port was broadcast internationally. Jarre’s futuristic concert marries lighting and laser choreography with the visual score of his universal music.

The royal couple’s concert invite was to all the Monegasques residents, cross-border workers and inhabitants of the neighboring towns. And the California group Eagles gave a two-hour performance at the Louis II Stadium in front of 15,000 people.

Wedding gifts for the Royals.
The royal couple did not wish to receive any gifts for their wedding. Their suggestion was that donations could be made for the benefit of foundations and associations. And all the funds on the accounts were shown.

• Euronews TV broadcast the Monaco Royal Wedding and Jean Michel Jarre’s concert live. From June 29 to July 2, 2011, euronews had live series of reports from the Principality of Monaco. And a Monaco Wedding feature was shown at the end of each No Comment news series. Each report was broadcast in 10 different languages. And it was also shown on Catch-up TV on the Internet.

Charlene Wittstock conversion to Roman Catholicism.
On April 4, 2011, the Palace media release issue said that Miss Charlene Wittstock who professes the Christian faith has been admitted by free and personal choice into full communion with the Catholic Church. This step was clearance for the last official hurdle for the religious marriage ceremony. Wittstock was brought up Protestant.

Catholicism is the principality’s official religion. And Wittstock’s conversion let her enter into a sanction marriage with the reigning sovereign. It also meets the constitutional requirements regarding any possible heirs.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Wittstock’s homeland in South Africa.

The Palace sent out an official collection of memorabilia to mark the wedding of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Miss Charlene Wittstock.

Prince Albert is the son of Prince Rainier III and American actress Grace Kelly. He succeeded his father in a formal ceremony on July 12, 2005 shortly after Rainer’s death.

Prince Albert’s mother, Grace Kelly died in a car accident in 1982. The religious wedding ceremony of Grace and Rainier in April 1956 was a live pioneering television event in its day.
