With your wedding around the corner or if you are just starting to plan your special day, flowers usually play an important role.

Floral bouquets can come in a variety of colours and designs to match your dress and/or the theme of your wedding.

Canadian Certified Floral Designer, Jennifer Harvey, is helping to execute the Toronto Canada Blooms Floral Artist of the Year Competition, and running several workshops for this year’s event.

With endless floral options available, picking the perfect arrangements can be a daunting task. Jennifer has teamed up with Mark Cullen, president of Mark’s Choice and Canada Blooms to offer the following floral tips and trends.

Preferences: When picking out for your personalized bouquet. Do you have a favourite flower or colour? Use these details as a starting point when beginning your search.

Purchasing: Consider your budget when deciding where you want to purchase your bouquet. Local florists, farmers’ markets, grocery stores and online shops sell a range of floral options to select price points.

Planning: Be proactive and take time to plan your arrangement, as it never hurts to order early. Working with a florist is a beneficial option, and it ensures your bouquet has a professional and personalized touch. Determine ahead if you are looking for a bouquet that is hand tied or a custom design, and cut accordingly.

Trends: Think about taking inspiration from fresh floral trends when customizing a bouquet. Pantone’s Living Coral is currently “Colour of the Year”; incorporating florals with this dynamic pop of pink into a bouquet can create vibrancy and spark.

The use of foliage and natural grass within arrangements is also on-trend and can bring texture and movement into a bouquet.

“Try thinking outside the box when picking floral arrangements for your reception decor that is unexpected,” said Jennifer Harvey. “Taking the time to plan personal details and selecting florals with colours and textures that match your wedding dress or theme will help to make your special day a memorable impression.”

Canada Blooms is co-located with the National Home Show, March 8th to 19th, 2019, at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Canada.
