HEALTH TIPS:

How to avoid getting sick & strengthen your immune system for your wedding day

1. Want to prevent stress?
Be prepared. Check those references for caterers, photographers, videographers, entertainers and wedding planners. Make sure you have thought out the invitations, seating, travel, and rehearsal planning. Then, on the big day, delegate and accept whatever happens. If you've chosen a seasoned wedding planner, you can focus on your what matters, which is to look fantastic, be gracious, and have fun!

2. Sleep
Use of sedatives and alcohol to sleep are usually a bad idea. They are addictive, build tolerance, and cause withdrawal symptoms if you don't maintain them. Even worse, they disrupt the normal cycles of sleep which cleanse the mind and soul. But without sleep, you will look bad, make bad choices, and be unpleasant to be around.

For the entire week before the wedding, get in the habit of exercising during the day, never taking caffeine after 3PM, turning off all the phones and disturbances, and using the bedroom only for sleep. If you still have difficulty getting to sleep, consider taking s 25-75 mg of Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) two hours before an early bedtime. It is short-acting and lacks the narcotic pitfalls of your typical sleeping pills.

3. Anti-virals
50% of people are chronic carriers of Oral Herpes, (the cause of the cold sores) and 25% are carriers of Genital Herpes. If you have had either, you should take daily suppression with Acyclovir or a related medication for the two weeks leading up to the wedding right through the honeymoon. Weddings are stressful and stress causes outbreaks.

4. Birth Control Pills
If you are on them then you know your system. If you are not on them and want to be contact your doctor.

5. Cold and Flu prevention
Get vaccinated for this season's flu strains. Wash you hands frequently after being in any public situations or around kids. Never touch or rub your eyes (the main way people contract colds and flus). if people near you at work are coughing and sneezing all day long wear a surgical mask for protection.

6. Meditation - Learn to meditate.
This does not necessarily mean incense, chakras, and chanting to a blue elephant. It involves being able to take 5-10 minutes in a quiet place, with your eyes closes, just to be alone with your thoughts. You need to learn to control your breathing, understand and embrace your fears and fantasies, then visualize your desired and attainable wedding goals. Like all top athletes will tell you, you need to accept failure yet visualize success so that you can master the feelings and mindset required to make sure that "wedding jitters" don't ruin your special day.

7. Eat healthy
This is a lifelong thing but since many women are "emotional eaters" try to eat healthy in the months leading up to the wedding. Eat small meals with lots of water, a balance of fruits, vegetables and meats, fish or chicken, and avoiding binges of high glycemic foods (such as breads, pastas, rice, and sweets) which releases the fat storage hormone, insulin.

And while taking a diuretic or water pill may help fit you into your dress and define your cheekbones, it is NOT a good idea. Dehydration affects your mental functioning, metabolism, and stamina. In the extreme, it can cause heart beat irregularity, fainting, and seizures.

8. Exercise
Yoga has become very popular and for good reason. It improves flexibility, strength, focus, and in some active forms such as Vinyasa, can be quite the aerobic and fat-burning work out.

If you prefer traditional exercise, be sure to mix cardio, core and strength training to keep it interesting and to make the body constantly challenged and improving.

A program of exercise is a critical lifestyle choice that should be embraced as it relieves stress, improves sleep, and keeps you healthy and attractive by activating telomerase, a crucial enzyme that repairs the DNA caps of chromosomes.

9. Telomerase Activation
For discovering how telomerase maintains our cells in a youthful condition, three scientists won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2009. In recent years, scientists have shown in both mice and men, that the signs and symptoms of aging can be reversed by activating telomerase, a universal stem cell healing engine in our bodies that is improved with sleep, immune health, meditation, exercise, and proper nutrition. For more information on telomerase contact your doctor.

Bridal Beauty from the Inside Out

YOGA HELPS BRIDES PREPARE

Many brides rely on yoga to get into great shape, improve posture for photographs, and to build a foundation to keep them calm and connected all the way up to the big day. It is one of the programming options that offers several classes that will help brides make wedding planning decisions with a clear mind and enable them to walk down the aisle with confidence and tranquility. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Three months to go – Picture Perfect Posture Poses:
It’s best to start with the basics and build from there. Begin by signing up for an intro to a yoga series that will teach all the yoga basics to quickly prepare for advanced classes safely. Knowing the basics allows the most benefits from the postures, muscles will be worked more effectively and brides will be able to find a place of calm more easily.

If there are no studios that offer intro classes locally, start with level one classes twice a week for two weeks. Once these fundamentals are learned, it will be easier to take progressively harder classes.

Spend the next two weeks in intermediate classes and bump up frequency to three times a week. The easiest way is to pick two weeknights or mornings to take classes, plus one time on the weekends.

Two months to go – Calm and Clear Classes:
With the essential postures mastered, consider moving into vinyasa flow classes which will strengthen and tone the body. These classes move through a series of yoga poses that are connected together with flowing, athletic movements and breath, all while moving continuously for at least an hour. This will help build strength and flexibility, while sweating will help detoxify the body. Practice should be at least three times a week, but for more dramatic results, try practicing everyday. The unique aspect of yoga is that it is a workout that does not require a day off to recover the way some other exercise regimes do.

One week to go – Mind and Body Connection:
Brides should take their favorite vigorous flow class on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, get a massage and take a restorative yoga class, in which you will be guided into passive positions using bolsters and blankets to hold and soothe the body. Take Thursday off.

Day before – Breath and Balance:
On Friday host a private class at home or another venue for the bridal party. This would be a great way to have fun and relax together and you can follow it up with a healthy rehearsal dinner.

Day of – Believe and Achieve:
Before the wedding, brides can host a special private class with their fiancé to connect together and breathe away any pre-wedding jitters.
