Valentine Red
Ideas for gowns, dresses & accessories
updates by Shelley Waugh
Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman in red, pink and white on the red carpet
January 15, 2012, Golden Globe Awards, Hollywood
On the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards, Angelina Jolie, above left, wore a draped ivory Atelier Versace gown with contrasting red accents, including a Christian Louboutin clutch. She finished the look with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
Natalie Portman, right, a presenter on the Awards, wore a pink custom Lanvin gown with red accents, Jimmy Choo sandals, a Tiffany & Co. clutch and Harry Winston jewels.
The Valentine Bride in Red
Red wedding gown by designer Ian Stuart
February 14, Valentine's Day makes a spectacular theme wedding.
Designer
Ian Stuart
's bride, pictured above, seems to have stepped out of a nineteenth century painting by Winterhalter, the extravagance of her gown intensified by the use of the color red. The theatricality of the design aesthetic makes it clear that today's wedding dresses are for one day and one day only.

Do's/Don'ts: Valentine Gown & Dress Accessories
Do’s
1. Do add something
RED
to your ensemble. A red garter, a fantastic matte red lipstick, or a classic bouquet of red roses is a perfect way to give a nod to the day of love.
2. Do make a fabulous Valentine’s Day play list as a wedding favor. Think classics. Sinatra, Fitzgerald, Curtis. Everytime your guests have a listen, they’ll remember the most romantic way they ever spent Valentine’s Day.
3. Do add a Valentine’s Day candy bar. It is the ultimate day to indulge in candy. Heart shaped red velvet mini cakes, Godiva Truffles, Red Jelly Beans in beautiful crystal displays. Adding a bit of whimsy to this extra romantic day is key.
4. Do have your bridesmaids wear pink or red dresses. A gorgeous burgundy satin, or pale oyster taffeta are tasteful options for their ensemble.
5. Do set the mood for your Valentine’s Day Wedding. Opt for old Hollywood Glamour with candles, deep romantic tones, and an elegant lighting scheme. You definitely want to make the day romantic for everyone.
Don’ts
1. Don’t wear red undergarments. Nobody wants to see that.
2. Don’t be too cheesy with cupid decorations. Keep it tasteful and elegant.
3. Don’t buy heart shaped balloons. It’s not a prom.
4. Don’t drink too much red wine on the big day. Red stain on white dress is no bueno!
5. Don’t forget that it’s your wedding day first and foremost. Have fun.

What a perfect day to wear red, shades of red or red accessories with a white gown including your bouquet or change into a red party dress for your reception.
