Eastern Highlands, Zimbabwe
The Eastern Highlands in Zimbabwe offer a getaway experience at the Zimbabwe Premier Mountain Park and Resort, that includes a wide array of tourist activities located within a short distance of under 65km. This premier destination is blessed with beautiful scenery which can be viewed from up above one of Southern Africa`s tallest mountain, Mt. Inyangani and there is also the opportunity to experience Africa's second tallest waterfall, the unique two-tier Mtarazi Falls, right, that rushes down from 2593m high.
These natural landscapes offer exciting opportunities to enjoy peace and tranquility while horse riding, golfing, trout fishing and mountain hiking. Aside from enjoying grandiose landscapes, the Eastern Highlands offers more great views when you visit Castle Beacon and beautiful Bvumba Botanical gardens.
Getting there
Zimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, is a landlocked country located on a high plateau in the southern part of the continent of Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. It is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest, Mozambique to the east and Namibia to the Caprivi Strip.
There are three ways to get to the Eastern highlands: by rail, coach and car. There is a daily railway service between Harare, the capital city and Mutare which takes you to the Eastern highlands. Coach and car are the recommended modes of transportation because they allow tourists to stop and witness the beautiful terrain that makes up most of the Eastern highlands. As you are driving along, entering the city of Mutare, you can literally see the whole city from the "Christmas Pass", a road built on top of a mountain range twirling its way down towards the city.
Accommodations
The Eastern highlands has 2-4-star hotels to choose from. Visit

Male Waterbuck
Southern Africa is home to an exceptional wealth of antelope species.
The late American author and syndicated columnist, Robert Ruark, once wrote that there is no more a ruggedly handsome animal in Africa than the Male Waterbuck, pictured right.
He is not as showy as the kudu or sable; by comparison his shaggy coat is rather plain and his horns workmanlike rather than spectacular, but with his sturdy build, proud stance and unique gait he is an imposing sight.
