Blueberry Lake Resort
Anthony Verombeck, editor,
GROOM
In driving to the Blueberry Lake Resort in Labelle, Quebec, from Toronto last summer, we wanted to view the Ontario country side along our way to our romantic weekend holiday. It was a joy to see the many changes and new developments along the way. After a few coffee and washroom breaks we drove into Quebec. It was clean driving all the way. It’s an easy route, Hwy. 401 East to Quebec. We pulled into an information station for directions and was handed a new free map, along with a warm smile. We also learned the French word for north - nord.
On our way to Labelle in the Mont Tremblant Laurentians region on Hwy. 15 we did have some stops and gos because of new highway road work. So even if you where to fly into Mont Tremblant International airport you would be in traffic for a little inconvenience. So bring your water and shakes with you. It took us just over eight hours after stops to rest, view the mountains and smell the fresh air of the Laurentians - there’s nothing like it in this whole wide world.
When we drove up to the Blueberry Lake Resort we were amazed that it was just like the photos. Wow what a development. It’s a private hide away and one of the most magnificent and natural surrounding of any resort I've seen.
The log style homes are state-of-the-art luxury and have all the bells and whistles including kitchens, bedrooms, internet, washer, dryers and your own style movie room. Some homes come with hot tubs. All you are going to need are your groceries that you can pick up on the way to the resort.
On our first night we had the pleasure to dine with our host Chef Jean-Michel Potier, who is from France, the real thing. Let me tell you this, he created the best mushroom soup I have every had in my many travels. The menu changes every week, and each meal is made fresh. For you wine lovers there are many to choose from the best of the best. When the restaurant is open their catering options include in-house Chef and catering for pre-prepared menus.
We went for a swim at the private lake on the resort, don't forget to bring sun screen, and was so pleased that there wasn't any noise from jet boats. This is a peace of mind lake to relax, paddle, swim in the pool or lake, play tennis, or go kayaking, fishing, biking or just explore the woods and sounds.
The resort's weekend packages include activities and catering. On-site includes spa packages, tennis, volleyball, outdoor swimming pool, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, water skiing, mountain biking, children’s play area, ice skating, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, tobogganing runs, ice fishing. Off-site the resort can organize seasonal packages for Alpine skiing, rafting, ATV, snow-mobiling, dog sledding, horse riding and more …
If you decided to go, enjoy your stay and experience a whole new level of relaxation.

HOW TO GET MARRIED IN QUEBEC
In Quebec, you may have either a civil ceremony or a religious ceremony. With both types of ceremony, two witnesses must be present.
In Quebec, you may choose to have your marriage or civil union solemnized by someone special to you. In this case, you and the person you have chosen to perform the wedding ceremony must complete the form entitled "Request for the Designation of an Officiate of a Marriage or Civil Union" and send it to the Direction des services judiciaries at the Ministère de la Justice, preferably three to four months before the date of the ceremony.
Before conducting any marriage ceremony, the chosen officiant must publish the bans. A notice will be posted for 20 days before the date of the marriage at the place where the marriage is to be solemnized. Any person, including a minor, can oppose the marriage for good reasons.
Religious marriages:
You must visit an officiant to set the date for your marriage.
The officiant will verify your age, identity and civil status, and arrange for the bans to be published.
The officiant will also advise you to have a premarital medical examination.
The documents required for a religious marriage may vary depending on the religious organization involved. More about religious marriages can be obtained from a priest, rabbi, minister or pastor who solemnizes this type of marriage.
Civil marriages:
• You must complete the Civil Marriage - General Information form, which is available from the Service des mariages civils at the courthouse in the district you are getting married in.
• You will then set a date for the marriage and schedule an appointment with the Service des mariages civils for an interview with the court clerk.
• You must attend this interview with a witness, who does not need to be one of the witnesses chosen for the actual marriage ceremony, although he or she must be someone that you know well.
• For marriages before an officiant other than the clerk or deputy clerk, you should arrange an appointment with the clerk to familiarize yourselves with pre-marriage formalities, agree on fees and disbursements and method of payment, and finalize such particulars as the time and place of the ceremony.
• All officiants must verify your identity and civil status, and will counsel you on the advisability of a premarital medical examination.
You will be required to submit the following documents:
• Birth certificate
• A passport and an ID photo
• If previously married, a certified copy of the final divorce decree, or death certificate if marriage ended due to death of spouse.
• Documents written in a language other than French or English must be accompanied by an official translation.
For more detailed information, see the Government of Quebec’s website at
www.justice.gouv.qc.ca/english/accueil.asp
. You can also download many of the necessary forms and applications from this site.
