Vail, Colorado

The 4 Eagle Ranch

Getting Married in the Wild Wild West

by Shelley Waugh
Thirty minutes from Vail, Colorado is the 4 Eagle Ranch, a wedding venue on more than 1,000 acres of open land that offers guests 'real good' food usually served buffet style, and activities that range from horseback riding, steer-head roping, horseshoes and horse-drawn hay-wagon rides.

The ranch does not have overnight accommodations and is a 30-minute drive west of Vail and 20 minutes west of Beaver Creek, and if the ceremony itself will be held at any of the other venues around the valley.

Blood tests are not required in the State of Colorado. The license may be used immediately or within 30 days of the date it was obtained, and it may be used anywhere in the State of Colorado only. There is no waiting period to use the license after it is issued to the couple. The fee for a license is US$10.00, and for certified copies is US$1.25. Licenses should be returned to the Clerk & Recorder's office within 60 days after the ceremony. Failure to return within 60 days is subject to a fine.

For ages 16 and 17, consent of both parents, or the parent or guardian having legal custody, is required. For ages under 16, consent of parents or guardian and judicial approval are required. Proof of age is required to obtain a marriage license.

• Both parties must be present to apply for a marriage license and both must sign the application that includes: Date and place of birth, current address.
