The Royal Wedding
Groom: Prince William

Planning his wedding

notes by Joyce Barslow
Prince William Won't Wear a Wedding Band
March 31, 2011

William has decided not to wear a wearing ring. His bride-to-be, Kate Middleton, will have a wedding band made from Welsh gold. A tiny amount of gold mined from the Welsh mountains (not far from where the couple will start their married life on Anglesey), has been kept in the royal vaults since it was originally presented to William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, both pictured left.

The Queen has "given a piece of the gold that has been in the family for many years to Prince William as a gift," a palace source says. An expert craftsman, unnamed by the palace but likely to be the Crown Jeweler Harry Collins, has been tasked with fashioning the nugget into a piece for Kate.

William's father, Prince Charles does wear a wedding band underneath his signet ring.

Prince Harry To Be William's Best Man
On February 14 the palace announced on their website that Prince Harry is to be William's Best Man.

Prince William orders a Groom's cake

by Anthony Verombeck
Prince William is breaking tradition and has personally requested a groom's cake made of cookies and chocolate to be served alongside the couple’s official wedding cake. The groom’s cake is a wedding custom linked with the southern United States. “It’s going to be literally covered in chocolate decoration,” Paul Courtney, the cake head chef at cookie-makers McVitie Cake Company who will make the cake using a secret recipe given to them by royal insiders. The cake will contain 17 kilos of chocolate and some 1700 of the company’s “Rich Tea” brand cookies enough to feed all guests.

Former royal chef's recipe
Prince William’s Royal Wedding Chocolate Biscuit Cake Recipe is in former Royal Chef Darren McGrady's* cookbook Eating Royally Eating Royally: Recipes and Remembrances from a Palace Kitchen, pictured right. "The cake is also his grandmother’s favorite cake,” says McGrady. “I used to prepare it for both of them when they had Sunday tea together and the Queen knew her grandson William would be joining her from Eton.”

Monday March 28, 2011

Guests sworn to secrecy

Norfolk - Twenty friends attended Prince William’s bachelor party hosted by Prince Harry, both pictured left, at a stately home that is just two hours outside of London. The US$4000 house party was reported within the grounds of the estate owned by the family of William's friend Ed Van Cutsen, one of the ushers at his wedding. The attending guests were sworn to secrecy including James Meade who Prince William met at Eton and Thomas Van Straubenzee who attended Ludgroe Prep School in Berkshire.

Harry had originally planned a water-themed celebration with speed boats and water skiing, but these plans were dropped after details leaked to the media. - AV

The Proposal
Prince William, 28, and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton, 28, became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. The prince informed The Queen and other close members of his family and he sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father. The official announcement was released on November 16 from Prince Charles' Clarence House office as follows: The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton on TheBritishMonarchy

Prince William gave Kate the engagement ring his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, received from his father, Prince Charles. Kate, pictured left, is wearing the 18 carats oval blue sapphire engagement ring surrounded by 14 small diamonds in an cluster, during greeting the media with William on November 16th. ... read more in the Royal Engagement
