Prince William & Kate launch Calgary Stampede then off to California
Calgary - Wearing white Smithbilt white cowboy hats and jeans, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge launched the Calgary Stampede by hitting a giant red button to launch fireworks, a cascade of ticker tape and a parade.

In his last official address to a crowd on Thursday, July 7, in Calgary, Prince William thanked Canada for its hospitality on behalf of his wife Catherine and himself, and he closed by mentioning that his great grandmother, The Queen Mother, had indicted in her first royal tour to Canada in 1939 with her husband, King George VI, that "Canada made us." William ended his last greetings saying that "he and Catherine understood what she meant and that we shall return."

This event completed the newlyweds first official royal tour of Canada before they boarded a plane for Los Angeles for their three-day stay.

William and Kate draw record Canada Day crowd
Canada Day, July 1, 2011
OTTAWA - Prince William and his bride, Kate Middleton, started their first full day of appearances at a citizenship ceremony held outside the city's Canadian Museum of Civilization across the river in Gatineau, Que.

At noon, they were greeted by over 300,000 when the couple arrived at Parliament Hill in a horse-drawn landau to the delight of the biggest crowd ever for the Canada Day celebrations.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper welcomed the crowd and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince William greeted the crowd opening with Happy Birthday Canada in French and English. During his talk he said that "Catherine had heard about Canada from her grandfather who passed away last year, but who held this country dear to his heart - for he trained in Alberta as a young pilot during the Second World War.”  William went on to praise Canada’s military and noted that this month marks the end of combat operations in Afghanistan.

Next, the couple then watched performances by Canadian acts in a royal box. In leaving the couple greeted and talked to people in the crowd as they walked to their waiting car.

In celebration of Canada Day and the Canadian flag colors, red and white, Kate wore a red fascinator from Lock and Co. and the white Reiss dress she wore in her engagement photos. She also wore the Maple Leaf brooch the Queen wore on her first visit to Canada.

The royal couple arrived in Ottawa on June 30 at 2 p.m. ET. Kate boarded the plane in London wearing a blue blazer by Toronto-based Smythe les Vestes, left, that covered a navy blue knee-length Manon dress by French designer Roland Mouret with Manolo Blahnik Calogera court shoes and a Mulberry purse.

When she and Prince William landed in Ottawa, Kate had changed into a dark blue and white dress designed by Montreal-born Erdem Moralioglu and her hair style.

Prince William's personal flag for Canada

Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper unveiled a new personal flag, left, for use in Canada, created for His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge. The flag, whose creation and design were approved by Her Majesty The Queen and Prince William, is being flown for the first time when The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Ottawa on June 30th to begin their nine-day Royal Tour of Canada to July 8th.

The new flag, left, was developed by the Canadian Heraldic Authority at Government House in Ottawa. When The Duke of Cambridge is in Canada, his personal flag will be flown day and night at any building at which he resides and on all vehicles in which he travels. It is the first personal flag to be created for a member of the Royal Family since 1962, when it was announced that Her Majesty The Queen of Canada had adopted a personal flag for her own use in Canada.

St. James Palace has released the itinerary for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first visit to California.

Highlights of Los Angeles itinerary include:

Friday, July 8 - their visit starts in the evening with a Consular-General Reception – at his residence – on behalf of United Kingdom Trade and Investment, a government department that looks after British business interests and start-ups overseas.

Saturday, July 9 - during the day, William will play polo at the Santa Barbara Polo Club. The match will benefit the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cambridge.

It's the one event on their U.S. tour that's open to the public. Regular club tickets are $400 each, and $4,000 to be in the VIPs seated in the royal couple's section.

The menu differs between VIP guests and club guests. The people in the VIP tent will be served a three-course lunch, along with some passed appetizers. People in the club section will receive gourmet boxed lunches.

Security will be high says Glen Holden, ambassador of the club told People. "We will provide more and very synchronized security. Some of the shoulders of the roads nearby will be closed off." Holden said that William and Kate are the "most wonderful people to work with. They answer their telephone calls and emails immediately."

Saturday evening they will attend a British Academy of Film and Television Arts black-tie dinner and reception in downtown Los Angeles at the recently renovated 1926 Belasco Theatre, on Hill Street. The event is meant to spotlight "up and coming British talent," according to St. James's.
