William and Kate meet Hollywood royals  

Prince William and Kate arriving at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts black-tie dinner in Los Angeles on July 9. Kate is wearing a lilac chiffon dress by Alexander McQueen.

The Arrival
Friday, July 8
- The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first official visit as newlyweds started in the evening with a Consular-General Reception – at his residence – on behalf of United Kingdom Trade and Investment, a government department that looks after British business interests and start-ups overseas.

 

Saturday, July 9 - during the day, William played polo at the Santa Barbara Polo Club and his team won. The Duchess presented the winning kiss and trophy, above. The match will benefit the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cambridge.

It's the one event on their U.S. tour that's open to the public. Regular club tickets were $400 each, and $4,000 to be in the VIPs seated in the royal couple's section.

The menu differed between VIP guests and club guests. The people in the VIP tent were  served a three-course lunch, along with some passed appetizers. People in the club section received gourmet boxed lunches.

Security was high says Glen Holden, ambassador of the club, "We provided more and very synchronized security. Some of the shoulders of the roads nearby were closed off." Holden said that William and Kate were the "most wonderful people to work with. They answer their telephone calls and emails immediately."

On Saturday evening the couple stole the show when they attended a British Academy of Film and Television Arts black-tie dinner and reception in downtown Los Angeles at the recently renovated 1926 Belasco Theatre, on Hill Street. Catherine was dressed in a lilac chiffon gown by Alexander McQueen. William was in a classic black tuxedo. The event was meant to spotlight "up and coming British talent," and it attracted several Hollywood stars including Barbra Streisand and her husband, James Brolin, left.
 

Sunday morning, July 10 - will allow the couple some private time, while later on they visited the Inner-City Arts School, above, which is described on its website as "an oasis of learning, achievement and creativity in the heart of Skid Row."

Later in the day, the Royals attended a Service Nation: Mission Serve job fair for veterans at the Sony Studios in Culver City, before they headed to Los Angeles International Airport and their departure back to London.
