More than 600,000 viewed Kate's Wedding Dress in The Royal Collection
More than 600,000 people viewed The Duchess of Cambridge's ivory and white satin-gazar wedding dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the centerpiece of the annual summer opening of Buckingham Palace tours for the public that ran until October 3.
Kate was part of the decision to put the dress on display in the royal residence, where it stood under lights on a special platform in the Ballroom. Visitors were permitted within a few feet of the creation, which was topped-off with the Cartier "Halo" tiara that the Queen loaned the bride on the April 29 wedding day.
In rooms where the wedding celebrations occurred there were showcases of the handcrafted bridal shoes by the team at Alexander McQueen (size 8, with three-inch heels) and a replica of Kate's bridal bouquet fashioned in silk flowers by the wedding florist Shane Connolly. There was also a film about the creation of the dress, featuring Sarah Burton.
William & Kate's Wedding Cake
The tiered wedding cake was in the state dining room with the first cut, from Prince William's sword, still visible on its base, almost exactly as it was on April 29.
The top three tiers were replaced with replicas by baker Fiona Cairns, as the couple have held on to the top two tiers, keeping with the tradition of saving some to serve at a first child's christening.
The third section was eaten on the big day.
Tickets:
Buckingham Palace tour tickets were US$28.50. Tours included 19 state rooms, a special Royal Fabregé exhibit and a walk in the south side of the garden. For more information visit

Prince Philip
, the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service, pictured left.
Kate wore a blue brocade coat dress and cream-colored LK Bennett heels.
William wore a dark blue suit.

William and Kate celebrate the Queen's 85th birthday
LONDON - The family was out to help HM Queen Elizabeth II, left, celebrate her 85th official birthday (her real birthday is April 21 but the weather is not as nice). The Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh rode in the Trooping the Colour parade as watchers lined the streets to wish her a Happy Birthday. The ceremony is made up of more than 600 guardsmen and cavalry.
Prince William had official duties in the parade, and along with his father, Prince Charles, they rode with their fellow guardsmen and cavalry on horseback, saluting the Queen as they rode by in their red Irish Guard uniforms.
Kate, right, rode in a carriage with her mother-in-law Camilla Bowles, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined other members of the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony where they also watched a flyover of military aircraft. And yes, that is the same uniform William wore on his wedding day.

The Duke & Duchess star at $28-M Ark Gala
When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Ark Gala all eyes were on Kate wearing a
Jenny Packham
pearlescent rose sequin gown embellished with Swarovski crystal evening dress, L.K. Bennett shoes and clutch.
The newlyweds made their first public engagement as a married couple attending the 10th annual
Absolute Return for Kids
(ARK) Gala Dinner at London's Perks Field at Kensington Palace. Kate sat next to Prince Pavlos of Greece. William sat in-between Marie Chantal of Greece and Debbie von Bismarck.
The guests, who sipped Baron de Rothschild champagne, paid up to US$16,000 a head, and the post-dinner auction helped bring in the impressive fund-raising total. Among the items on the block: a box of medicine signed by the royal couple, which eventually sold for nearly US$200,000.
The 1,000 guests included actors Elizabeth Hurley, Kevin Spacey and Colin Firth, designer Tom Ford, model Sophie Dahi, David Furnish, Arpad 'Arki' Busson, Elisabeth Murdoch, Helen Asprey, Lord Janvrin, Countess von Bismark, Jemima Khan, Baroness de Rothschild and Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.
William addressed the guests and announced a new joint initiative between ARK and The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry and The Duchess of Cambridge. "This is a joint venture based on our shared vision and commitment to transform lives of thousands of young people," he said. They plan to work on a program over the next four years that will cost $8 million.
After receiving a standing ovation, the royal couple made an early exit. By the end of the evening, US$28-million had been raised on behalf of the ARK charity.

Prince William & Kate attend Derby in style
The newlyweds, picture left with friend Jake Warren and The Queen, showed family support at their first public appearance since
their honeymoon by attending the Epsom Derby to support William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. The Queen's
horse, Carlton House, was listed as the favorite to win at the
prestigious race, but came in third.
Kate's cream ensemble was a Reiss ‘Peacock’ dress underneath a Joseph Nessie tweed jacket, a taupe Whiteleys fascinator, a pair of LK Bennett Sledge2 shoes and a LK Bennett ‘Natalie’ clutch. She styled her hair in a modern chignon.
William and his brother Harry both wore traditional tailcoats and top hats, along with all the men in the royal group.
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also attended and Beatrice's hat didn't disappoint, pictured.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first royal duty
LONDON - On May 24, 2011, William and Catherine met with U.S. President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama for 20-minutes in the 1844 room in Buckingham Palace. During their relaxed meeting they also talked about William and Kate's upcoming visit to California in July. For the Duchess' first royal duty she wore a pale coffee-coloured cap sleeved knee length Shola dress by
Reiss (US$275)
, and she held a black Maud clutch bag by
Anya Hindmarch Bespoke
and shoes from
LK Bennett
, pictured left.
Within two minutes of Kate's picture chatting to the First Lady being flashed across news websites, 20 dresses were sold online, a company representative told the
Daily Mail
. Not long after, traffic to the
Reiss
online site had increased more than 300 per cent, causing it to crash. It came back a few hours later, only to crash again.
A Reiss spokesperson said all the 1,000 Shola dresses in its inventory were sold within hours of Kate wearing it. They have now issued a statement saying the dress is going to be re-stocked and have ordered 600 more dresses that will be available within six weeks and sold on a “first come, first served basis.” Reiss has 65 stores worldwide, but none in Canada.
The sold-out Shola-design dresses were available via the auction site eBay in the UK, where some sellers were asking more than $700. The supermarket chain Tesco is also manufacturing a copy of the dress that will sell for about $50.
Michelle Obama wore a Barbara Tfank-designed silk dress (US$2,200).
The Obamas spent two nights at Buckingham Palace before continuing their tour of Europe.

The Royal Hat that raised US$130,000!
LONDON - When Princess Beatrice, the 22-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, arrived at Westminster Abbey to attend the
royal wedding
of Prince William and Catherine Middleton with her father, Prince Andrew and sister Princess Eugenie, it seemed all cameras went on her silk swirling bow hat by
Philip Treacy
that matched her dress by
Valentino Haute Couture
.
The princess took lots of ribbing about the hat online that went viral, so she decided to list the hat as a unique sculptural celebratory headpiece on eBay and is getting the last laugh by its sale to an anonymous bidder for US$130,000 that she raised for Unicef and Children in Crisis, a charity her mother, Sarah, the Duchess of York established.
Treacy created 36 hats for the royal wedding, including for Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Eugenie, Princess Michael of Kent, Queen Anna-Marie of Greece, Victoria Beckham and Princess Mathilde of Belgium.

Kate's first royal grocery run in Wales
Duchess in aisle three!
Real life for the Duchess of Cambridge is doing her own thing - and that seems to include grocery shopping.
The lady walking by Duchess Catherine, left, doesn't seem to recognize her. If it wasn't for the security officers with her maybe no one would of noticed her handing her car keys to one of them.
Dressed casual in skinny jeans, a green sweater and ballet flats, with a ponytail holder around her wrist, Kate was also wearing her new wedding band and her engagement ring.
Her shopping list included the basics and she also picked up a few special items, leading one onlooker to speculate that she might be making a romantic meal for her new husband.
"She loaded all the shopping items into her car on her own, then skipped as she ran the cart back to the park," and observer told the
Daily Mail
. "She looked very happy and was smiling at people. Most people didn't even spot who it was, despite her being probably the most famous person in the world at the moment."
The newlyweds never planned on employing chefs, butlers, valets or any other type of help beyond their security detail. After the couple's weekend getaway, Prince William went back to work and participated in two RAF emergency rescues before they left for their 10-day honeymoon.

Kate's first official event as a working royal
Kate got a taste of life as a working royal when she and Prince William dedicated a lifeboat in their first official appearance since their engagement was announced on November 16, 2010.
Hundreds of people cheered as the smiling 29-year-old princess-to-be poured a bottle of champagne over the vessel in a dedication service at the lifeboat station Trearddur Bay on Anglesey, northwest Wales.
The lifeboat station is near where William works as a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot — a job he returned to after the couple’s honeymoon.
Kate wore a three-quarter length beige coat, a black scarf, suede boots and a black feather hat, with her dark hair blowing in the wind, she laughed as she emptied out the bubbly onto the boat. She was unable to smash the bottle as per tradition because the lifeboat is inflatable.
William and Kate stood close beside each other on a podium as they sang the British and Welsh national anthems, “God Save the Queen” and “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” (”Land of My Fathers”).
