RENEWING YOUR VOWS
by Joyce Barslow
Heidi Klum and her husband Seal renewed their vows with their children
Every year since May of 2005, British singer Seal and supermodel Heidi Klum, renew their wedding vows. This year they will be celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary. During their party, they went off on their own down to a private beach where they sat for about an hour with their four children, Leni, 6, (whose father is Italian businessman Flavio Briatore), Henry, 4, Johan, 3, and Lou, 7 months, and read vows to each other as the sun set.
The couple were married in Mexico on a beach in front of 40 guests near Seal's home on Costa Careyes. Klum wore a Vera Wang ivory Chantilly lace gown with an empire waist. The cake served at the reception at Seal's home was topped with a miniature Seal in a tux and Klum in a gown.
HOW TO RENEW YOUR VOWS
Some couples renew their vows or reaffirm their marriage on their anniversaries or on another special occasion. You can reaffirm your vows simply - just the two of you - or your can recreate your wedding and/or reception on a smaller scale or create a new celebration.
Check where you were married to consider having your reaffirmation at the same place. You might want to use your original vows or write new ones. You will usually buy new outfits for the occasion (or you can wear your original clothes if they still fit!). You can include the same music, readings, vows, or change everything and add your children or anything that is meaningful to you.
The renewal celebration is a wonderful time to have a get-together or party. If you are planning an invitation, consider using your favorite wedding photograph or one that includes your family today.
If you are going to have a "reception" at home, and you still have the top of your wedding cake this is the time to show it off. Friends and relatives will probably bring gifts, some will be fun items, others will be to mark the occasion. Don't forget to take pictures and to get those little boxes for your guests to take home a piece of your wedding cake.
