TAKE YOUR WEDDING DRESS TO THE OPERA BY SEPTEMBER

50 wedding dresses will be featured in Act II when Brünnhilde learns that Siegfried has betrayed her and plans to wed another woman.

Toronto … The Canadian Opera Company is looking for approximately 50 white wedding dresses to be used by the company in the highly-anticipated production of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods) being mounted in the winter of 2006.

Time is of the essence, however, with the wedding dresses needed by September 2005. Other than colour, the COC has no restrictions on what makes an individual’s wedding dress donatable - no style is too outdated or too modern; no size is too big or too small. Please note that any dresses donated to the COC will not be returned. For interested wedding dress donors, now is the perfect time to indulge in some belated spring cleaning!

Götterdämmerung is the final opera in the four-part series known as the Ring Cycle. The winter 2006 production of Götterdämmerung is the continuation of the COC’s journey to present Canada’s first complete Ring Cycle. Fondly referred to as the Everest of operas, the Ring Cycle will have its Canadian premiere in September 2006 by the COC in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. When the COC presents the Ring in September 2006, wedding dress donors can take satisfaction in knowing their dress will play a pivotal role in Canadian history.

In Götterdämmerung the long-awaited end of the gods comes to pass as the hero Siegfried unwittingly betrays the heroine Brünnhilde and the cursed Rhine gold is returned to its rightful owners. The 50 wedding dresses will be featured in Act II when Brünnhilde learns that Siegfried has betrayed her and plans to wed another woman.
For more information about the COC’s production of Götterdämmerung, please visit the COC’s Web site, www.coc.ca. To inquire about wedding dress donations, please call Carol Holland in Toronto at 416-363-6671 or e-mail info@coc.ca .
