LET THERE BE LOVE THEME
Couple getting married under the Waterford Ball
NEW YORK CITY, Times Square - Former Marines Bethany Phillips and Geoffrey Dubit, left, were the first couple to be married on New Year’s Eve under the glow of the Waterford Ball in Times Square, pictured above. Philips, who is originally from Georgia and Dubit who is originally from North Carolina, are now Jacksonville, Florida residents. They met in Iraq where they were serving in the Marine Corps. On December 27th during the crystal installation event the couple added a crystal piece with their names inscribed to the famed ball.

For this annual event, workers installed 2,668 sparkling new triangles on the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball. The triangles, each about 3/8” thick, 4.75” to 5.75" in length, and 6.8 ounces in weight, are custom-designed and built to exact standards by Waterford artisans to withstand the extraordinary stresses resulting from high wind, precipitation and temperature fluctuation – all from 300 feet above Times Square. The 12-foot geodesic sphere is seen by millions from its year-round perch. Fans used their “Clink-Clink” mobile app for the iPhone and choose from the Waterford champagne flutes, martini glasses and more for a special virtual toast celebrating the year of love. With more than 100 original and traditional toasts, and functionality that allows toasts to be shared digitally through Facebook, users can link to new friends and share contact information instantly.
