Getaways in celebration of St. Patrick's Day

Ashford Castle, Ireland
St. Patrick's Day in Ireland offers plenty of festivities as well as first-hand exposure to the Emerald Isle's rich history and cultural traditions around this important holiday.

This year, Ireland's most historic five-star castle hotel, Ashford Castle, invites guests for a St. Patrick's Day weekend full of Irish culture and celebrations.

The entire package includes: Two nights' accommodation; full Irish breakfast each morning; dinner in the George V dining room on one evening with traditional Irish entertainment; boat trip to the island of Inchagoill and visit to St. Patrick's 5th-century church "templepatrick" and the most precious stone of Lugnad. The story of St. Patrick will be explained on board by Patrick Luskin, historian and captain of the ship; St. Patrick's Day games, including the "Pot of Gold" treasure hunt and "Long Puck" hurling (Puc Fada) competition; and Unlimited wishes at Ashford Castle's fountain, in order to capture the "Luck of the Irish!"
 
Available from March 16-18, 2012, the package is based on two people sharing and is priced from €650 (approximately US$890).

The five-star Merrion Hotel, left, is offering two packages for the holiday. Both packages encourage travelers to "Go Green," by indulging in Irish fare, sipping specialty cocktails and celebrating among the natives in the hotel's Cellar Bar, to watch Ireland play England in the "6 Nations" rugby tournament.
