AVril Lavigne & Deryck Whibley Montecito, California, July 15 … Canadian rockers Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley were married in front of family and friends in Montecito at a 10-acre private estate. Lavigne wore a Vera Wang custom-made ivory strapless tissue organza gown with wrapped bodice and appliqué lace beaded skirt and she carried a bouquet of white roses. Her bridesmaids were in Vera Wang draped petal pink crepe chiffon gowns. Whibley and his five groomsmen wore Boss Black tuxes by Hugh Boss. Lavigne was walked down the aisle by her father John as a band played the Wedding March. Lavigne and Whibley exchanged vows at a non-denominational service, under an awning of white flowers. Her mother Judy and siblings Michelle and Matthew attended, as did Whibley’s mother Michelle. Members of Whibley’s band, Sum 41, and a long-time friend of Lavigne’s were among those in the wedding party. As they walked back up the aisle as a married couple, about 100 friends, several from Ontario, and relatives tossed rose petals. Behind the gates of the estate were two tents set up for the reception. Once the brief ceremony was over in the mansion, they enjoyed cocktails while Lavigne changed into a Vera Wang ivory strapless draped Chantilly lace gown. Dinner followed in the tents decorated with a red theme, with centerpieces of red roses and other flowers. The couple's first dance was reported to be to the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. Lavigne, 21, and Whibley, the 26-year-old lead singer of Sum 41, were friends for several years before they started dating in early 2004. Whibley proposed to Lavigne during her European tour last June. Both sold their Toronto homes and moved in to a luxury home in Bel Air. It’s the first marriage for both. Born in Napanee, Lavigne dropped out of school before the 12th grade when she was offered a record deal. She released her debut CD, Let’s Go, which went six-times platinum thanks to hits like Complicated and Sk8r Boy. Her first two albums were 2002's Grammy-nominated Let Go and 2004's Under My Skin. Whibley was born in Scarborough, Ontario and settled in nearby Ajax. He played in several different bands before landing a recording contract. Formed in 1996, Sum 41’s first CD, All Killer No Filler, came out in 2001 and allowed the band to tour extensively in support of singles like Fat Lip, and In Too Deep.
